Crossword Puzzles and Cognition
Did you know that crossword puzzles can help keep your cognition more flexible? A study published in NEJM Evidence showed that those who completed crossword puzzles can possibly help mildly increase (or at least maintain) cognitive function in those who were diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. The numbers presented in the results of the study are small, but this is promising all the same. If you do not have Alzheimer’s, this can also be beneficial to you! Our brain needs exercise in order to stay fresh and sharp. Think about it — if you do not exercise regularly, what happens to your body? It gets sluggish and your endurance suffers. The SAME THING happens to your brain when you do not use your critical thinking abilities regularly. The good thing is that there is always time to at least hold on to what you still have or improve (depending on each individual circumstance, of course). Putting in the work to keep your cognition is worth it! If you would like to read more about the article mentioned above, click the link below.
